- Hyaluronic acid
- A molecule naturally present in the skin, where it retains water and keeps tissues supple. In aesthetic medicine, a synthetic hyaluronic acid is used, of non-animal origin, biocompatible and resorbable. It is the reference product in medical penoplasty.
- Outpatient
- Describes a procedure performed at the practice, with no hospital admission or stay. Medical penoplasty is an outpatient procedure: the patient leaves immediately after the injection.
- Atraumatic
- Describes a procedure that causes no tissue damage. Hyaluronic acid injection, performed under anaesthetic cream, is atraumatic and painless.
- Filler (soft-tissue)
- An injectable substance intended to restore or increase volume. Hyaluronic acid is the most widely used soft-tissue filler, on the face as well as the body.
- Medical ethics
- The body of rules governing medical practice, set out in the French Public Health Code and by the Ordre des médecins (French Medical Council). Among other things, they require communication to be informative and non-promotional, and prohibit third-party testimonials.
- Treatment plan
- A plan drawn up in consultation, setting out the areas to be treated, the volumes and the schedule of sessions. The plan considers the result in both the short and long term, in stages.
- Medical penoplasty
- An increase in penile girth and/or length by hyaluronic acid injection, without surgery. To be distinguished from surgical penoplasty, which takes place in the operating theatre.
- Cross-linking
- A process that binds hyaluronic acid molecules together to improve how well the product holds. However, an excessively cross-linked product may form hard lumps: the balance is decisive.
- Resorption
- The process by which the body gradually eliminates hyaluronic acid. It is this resorption that makes the result non-permanent and the procedure reversible.
- Cumulative effect
- The phenomenon whereby each new injection session extends the duration of the previous result. Maintenance therefore becomes naturally less frequent over time.
